Kohala High School is located on the northern tip of the Big Island, in the picturesque and historic North Kohala district, just minutes from beaches, great hiking, fishing, horseback riding and other recreational opportunities. Kohala High offers a small-town, small school atmosphere, while featuring an emphasis on standards-based and project-based learning, a multicultural student and teacher population, and academics comparable to or surpassing most larger schools.

Our beautifully maintained campus is among the greenest and most attractive you'll find anywhere. Landscaping offers you towering Norfolk Island pines, flower beds and inviting expanses of lawn, and even a Hawaiian garden, which features native plants. KHS's entire campus was refurbished in 2002; our classrooms are pleasant places in which to learn. Because we are a small school, students are individuals, known by most of the faculty and administration. You won't get that "face in the crowd" feeling at Kohala.

Your chances of excelling in clubs or in sports are much higher than at a large school. You have the opportunity to lead out academically, organizationally and athletically. Our qualified teachers are caring and have high expectations.

We also have a strong support system in place for all students. Kohala High has a comprehensive plan in place to help us reach our goal: meeting Hawaii Content and Performance Standards. The school revisits this plan each year to check our progress and refine our strategies. We believe our academic program gets better every year.
